September 13, 2014 Get back into the swing of poetry things this fall at our first meeting after the summer break. Sue Roberts, president of the Rusk County Poetry Society, and several of their members will travel to Dallas to share their poetry with us. Come meet some of our poets from east Texas that you may not know, and make a new friend. Also meet and greet your PST officers and board members for 2014-2015. October 11, 2014 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane in Dallas. Are you a fan of Downton Abbey on PBS? If so, you certainly don’t want to miss this special program! What poets would Cora, Countess of Grantham, or her daughters, Ladies Mary, Sybil, or Edith have been familiar with? Would any of their suitors have quoted these poets to win their affection? Would these poets affect the thoughts and actions of the gentry as well as the commoners of that time? To find out, please join us as Susan McGinn, a graduate of Harvard University with a B.A. cum laude in History and Literature, (England being her area of specialization) joins us. December 13, 2014 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane in Dallas. PST member Charlotte Renk, co-winner of the first national Blue Horse Press Chapbook Competition sponsored by San Pedro River Review, California will be our special guest. She will be reading from and speaking about her prize winning chapbook entitled “The Tenderest Petal Hears.” Larry D. Thomas, past Texas Poet Laureate, was the judge, and had words of praise for her poems. Please come and join us.

January 10, 2015 Happy New Year! Please join us for our first meeting of 2015 at our annual Poem-a-thon. Those in attendance will take turns reading their own poems or poems by their favorite poet. Vice President Budd Powell Mahan will also conduct a short memorial to honor our members who died in 2014. The meeting is at 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane. Visitors are always welcome!

February 14, 2015 It’s Valentine’s Day! Everybody loves a love story, and Linda Black, a graduate of Notre Dame, will be telling us about two poets who met through the Poetry Society of Texas and how their love for each other and poetry affected the promotion of poetry in Texas and beyond. She has created a Power Point presentation with photos and some of their poetry to help tell about their lives and their love story. Please join us at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane at 2:30 on Saturday, February 14th. Feel free to bring a friend, spouse, or sweetheart. Valentines and sweets are also welcome if you’re in the mood to help us celebrate the day!

March 14, 2015 Our speaker will be Barbara L. Berry from Mansfield, and the program is entitled, “Dial 777 for Assistance” An Unlikely Poet Offers Help for Writer’s Block. Be sure to bring along paper and a pen. 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane in Dallas. See you there!

April 11, 2015 April is National Poetry Month! Please join us as Terry Jude Miller from Richmond, Texas comes to present a short writing workshop to help us celebrate this special month. 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane in Dallas.

April 18, 2015 The PST Student Awards Program will be held in the Main Auditorium of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library at 1515 Young Street in downtown Dallas. The program will begin at 2:00 pm, and Budd Powell Mahan, Poetry in Schools Chairperson, will be the Master of Ceremonies. Students from all over the state will be on hand to read their winning poems to family members, friends, teachers, and other guests. Please join us to honor our young poets!

May 9, 2015 Esteemed poet Diane Glancy will be presenting a program entitled “The Narrative Impulse” and reading some of her own poetry. Don’t miss it! 2:30 pm at the Preston Royal Library, 5626 Royal Lane in Dallas.
